Introduction：The Rod Mill is a coarse grinding mill that uses steel rods as its grinding media. It employs “line contact” between rods to generate even compressive and abrasive forces, effectively minimizing over-grinding. Ideal for producing uniformly coarse products, it is commonly used in primary ore grinding and specialized finish-grinding applications.
Working Principle：Material and steel rods are loaded into the rotating drum. As the mill turns, rods are lifted and then cascade down, compressing the material between them. Fines escape quickly through rod gaps while coarse particles are retained and ground, achieving “selective grinding” for a narrowly sized product.

Uniform Particle Size & Low Over-Grinding – The unique selective grinding mechanism (“crush-coarse-first”) yields a product with a narrow size distribution and minimal fines generation, which is particularly beneficial for the recovery rates of subsequent gravity or magnetic separation processes.
Stable Operation & Easy Size Control – Compared to ball mills, rod mills provide gentler impact, resulting in smoother operation with less vibration and noise. Product size can be effectively predicted and controlled by adjusting feed rate, rod size mix, and mill speed.
Ideal for Coarse Grinding & High Throughput – Especially effective for reducing feed sizes from 20-80 mm down to 1-3 mm in a single stage. It excels in open-circuit primary grinding and often offers better energy efficiency per ton compared to ball mills under similar conditions.
Simple Structure & Easy Maintenance – Features simplified head and shell liner designs. Worn rods can be periodically replenished with new ones to maintain charge level and grinding efficiency, leading to relatively low overall maintenance demands.
